Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso has disclosed that Victor Boniface is nearing a comeback following a three-month injury layoff, according to reports from soccernet

Boniface has been a standout performer for Bayer Leverkusen since his arrival from Belgian club Royale Union SG last summer. The Nigerian striker enjoyed an impressive spell, notching up ten goals and seven assists in 16 appearances for Die Werkself.

His stellar performances earned him a spot in Jose Peseiro’s squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, but unfortunately, he was sidelined due to an adductor injury.

Since undergoing surgery for his injury, Boniface has been diligently undergoing physiotherapy sessions, as evidenced by his social media updates.

Despite Boniface’s absence, Bayer Leverkusen has performed admirably, remaining the only team in Europe’s top five leagues yet to suffer a defeat. With an eight-point lead over champions Bayern Munich and twelve games remaining, they are in a strong position.

Alonso gives update on Victor Boniface

As Bayer Leverkusen prepares to face Koln in the Bundesliga this weekend, Alonso has provided an update on Boniface’s recovery.

“His (Boniface) development is very good, the recovery is going in the right direction. That’s very positive,” Alonso said, per Bild.

“We expect Boniface soon, I don’t know, but it won’t be until May, maybe April, and that’s very good for us, having Boniface back.

“Boni works very well, with great professionalism, twice a day. We need players who have the desire to be back.”

Victor Boniface return boost

His potential return in April could provide a significant boost to the team, especially with seven Bundesliga matches scheduled for that month. The upcoming period will be challenging, and Leverkusen will undoubtedly rely on their top performers to maintain their momentum and avoid any slip-ups.
