Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti faces mounting pressure following a 2-5 defeat to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final.

This marked the second heavy loss to their archrivals this season, with Madrid also enduring a 0-4 drubbing at the Santiago Bernabeu in La Liga.

The defeat has cast doubt over Ancelotti’s tactical approach and team selection, raising speculation about his future at the club.

Xabi Alonso lined up as potential Ancelotti replacement

According to reports Madrid Universal, Real Madrid sees Xabi Alonso, currently managing Bayer Leverkusen, as the long-term successor to Ancelotti.

The former Real Madrid midfielder is contracted with the Bundesliga side until 2026 but has expressed interest in managing Los Blancos in the future.

While Alonso remains a future option, Real Madrid’s board continues to back Ancelotti for now, expecting an immediate turnaround, starting with their upcoming Copa del Rey clash against Celta Vigo.

However, if results fail to improve, a managerial change could occur before the season ends.

Solari as a Temporary Solution

In the event of Ancelotti’s dismissal, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez could turn to Santiago Solari as a short-term solution.

Solari, who had an unremarkable stint as first-team coach during the 2018/19 season, currently serves as the director of professional football at the club.

Despite his mixed managerial record, his familiarity with the club’s structure makes him a viable interim option.

Another candidate for a caretaker role could be Raul Gonzalez, who manages Real Madrid Castilla.

However, the long-term vision remains centered around Alonso’s eventual appointment.
