Ademola Lookman has asked to leave Atalanta, ending what once looked like a perfect match.
The Nigerian star, who joined in 2022, played a big part in the club’s recent success. He helped them win the Europa League and became a fan favorite with key goals and top performances.
But behind the smiles and celebrations, trouble was building.
This week, Lookman submitted an official request to leave the club. In a heartfelt social media post, he shared that he has gone through hard times at Atalanta that were never made public.
He said he had always stayed silent and loyal, even when things were rough. But now, he feels he has no other option but to walk away.
Broken Promises and a Blocked Move
Lookman pointed to broken promises from the club’s leadership. He claimed that there had been a deal stating that if a fair offer came in, they would let him go.
That offer came this summer as Inter Milan reportedly made a bid worth around 45 million euros. Lookman expected Atalanta to keep their word.
Instead, they said no. And that rejection, he said, was the final straw.
“I cannot understand why,” Lookman wrote. “I believed we had an agreement.”
A Goodbye to the Fans?
Despite the situation, Lookman had kind words for the fans.
He thanked them for their support and said they remain the “heartbeat of the club.”
He ended by saying he was truly sorry it had come to this.
