Paul Onuachu made the difference for Trabzonspor in their first match of the 2025/2026 Turkish Super Lig season.
The Nigerian striker scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win over Kocaelispor at Papara Park.
Onuachu, who joined the club permanently this summer after a strong loan spell, found the net just four minutes into the second half.
Rising above the defenders in the 49th minute, he met a perfect cross from Mustafa Eskihellaç with a firm header. The home crowd erupted as the ball flew past the goalkeeper.
The forward remained a constant danger until he was replaced in the 77th minute by Fatih Tekke.
His performance showed why Trabzonspor moved quickly to secure him on a full contract.
Other Nigerians in Action
Belgian-born winger Kazeem Olaigbe, who can play for Nigeria, started the game but made way for Danylo Sikan in the 63rd minute.
Anthony Nwakaeme, a former Super Eagles invitee, played 84 minutes before being substituted.
Kocaelispor pressed hard in the closing stages, but Trabzonspor’s defense held firm. The home side’s goalkeeper and backline dealt well with every late attack, ensuring a clean sheet.
Strong Record and Big Ambitions
Onuachu has a proven scoring record in Turkey. During his loan season in 2023/2024, he scored 15 goals and provided four assists in just 21 league matches.
His strong aerial ability and sharp movement in the box have made him a fan favorite.
Now at 31 years old, Onuachu will aim to keep up his form. His performances could help him earn a recall to the Nigerian national team as they prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The victory has lifted spirits among Trabzonspor fans, who are hopeful for another strong season.
With Onuachu leading the attack, the team looks ready to challenge for top honors in the league.
