South Africa has announced a large 48-man provisional list as preparations begin for their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in September.
Coach Hugo Broos is calling on both proven stars and new faces as his side looks to secure top spot in Group C.
The team will face Lesotho on September 5 at the Free State Stadium before a high-stakes encounter with Nigeria four days later at the same venue.
Strong Representation from Top Clubs

Mamelodi Sundowns provide a major chunk of the team. Skipper Ronwen Williams leads a group that includes Khuliso Mudau, Thapelo Morena, Teboho Mokoena, Bathusi Aubaas and Aubrey Modiba.
Orlando Pirates are also well represented with Evidence Makgopa, Patrick Maswanganyi, Nkosinathi Sibisi and Themba Zwane.
European-based stars Luke Le Roux from Portsmouth and Siyabonga Ngezana of Romanian side FCSB add international depth.
Burnley striker Lyle Foster returns to action, teaming up with Minnesota United forward Bongokuhle Hlongwane to strengthen the attack. Cyprus-based winger Mihlali Mayambela is also part of the provisional lineup.
High Stakes in Group C
South Africa lead the group with 13 points from six matches. Rwanda and Benin follow closely with eight points each, while Nigeria sit on seven. Lesotho have six points and Zimbabwe four.
With the standings so close, the upcoming games could decide which nation edges closer to a place at the 2026 World Cup.
Broos knows that the match against Nigeria carries extra weight, not only because of the points at stake but also because of the fierce football history between the two nations.
While Nigeria have often been seen as favorites in past meetings, recent encounters show Bafana Bafana can be a tough challenge.
Playing at home, they will look to keep their lead and deliver a statement victory that could shape the rest of their qualification journey.
