Fabio Capello, the former coach of Juventus and Milan, has criticized Victor Osimhen’s poor performance while analyzing Napoli’s disappointing 3-1 away defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League Round of 16 second leg.

In his post-match analysis on Sky Sport Italia, Capello criticized Napoli’s defensive tactics, expressing dissatisfaction with their approach to the game.

“The defense was not aggressive enough, and if you are not focused on the man, Barcelona can easily find a way to score. It was a poor defensive performance, as we’ve seen in Serie A.”

Capello added his voice to the critics, slamming Victor Osimhen’s performance against Barcelona. The Nigerian striker was caught offside six times in the first half alone, and his impact dwindled significantly in the second half, going largely unnoticed.

“He was flagged offside six times in the first half and went unnoticed in the second half,” as quoted by AreaNapoli. He added, “It was not the same Osimhen we usually see. He struggled against Barcelona defenders and only won one aerial duel. Barcelona’s weak point was the defense, and he could not emerge.”, Capello remarked, as per daily post.

Capello criticizes referee

While recognizing Napoli’s faults, Capello contended that the Partenopei were denied a penalty kick in the second half due to a potential foul on Osimhen.

Expressing discontent with the referee’s calls, Capello believed Napoli warranted a penalty but was overlooked, exacerbating their frustrations during the match.
