Arsenal 3–0 Lille: three goals in seven minutes keep perfect European start

Arsenal player celebrating a Champions League goal against Lille at the Emirates Stadium

Arsenal swept Lille aside 3–0 at the Emirates last night to make it two wins from two in the Champions League league phase. After a frustrating first half in which Ayase Ueda had a goal ruled out for offside, the Gunners exploded after the hour: Jurriën Timber broke the deadlock in the 64th minute, Eberechi Eze doubled it three minutes later from a Bukayo Saka cross, and Saka — on as a substitute — completed the scoring in the 71st. Saka’s strike was his 14th Champions League goal for Arsenal, taking him past Cesc Fàbregas and Freddie Ljungberg (13 each) in the club’s European scoring charts. The win was Arsenal’s 14th straight in the group/league phase and their ninth in ten across all competitions; they sit third in the 36-team table on six points.
