Super Eagles players made headlines for their impressive performances for their respective clubs over the weekend

It was a weekend of celebrations for Nigerians as Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi and other Nigerian players made headlines for their wonderful performances.

Below is a list of players who impressed over the course of the weekend

Alex Iwobi

Following Nigeria’s defeat to host nation Ivory Coast in the final of the just concluded AFCON tournament, the 26-year-old midfielder has received criticism from fans, blaming him for the team’s ineptitude to create chances.

It was a breath of fresh air for the midfielder, as he made the headlines for good reasons with his late minute goal, helping Fulham to a 2-1 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford.

“I’m over the moon right now, to win at Old Trafford in the last minute is crazy, there’s no better feeling. We feel like we performed really well, we’ve been performing well recently, and today is a step in the right direction, and hopefully, we can kick on from there,” the one-time FA Cup winner said in quotes revealed by the club’s official website.

Calvin Bassey, a fellow teammate of Iwobi at Fulham, was also on the scoresheet in the game against Manchester United. The former Rangers defender powered in a shot from close range, into the roof of the net.

The goal came from a rebound off his blocked header. Reacting quickly, he fired in with his right foot,  giving Fulham the lead halfway into the second half.

Moses Simon, who boasts a robust record against yesterday’s opponents, Lorient, scoring two goals and providing two assists in his previous two meetings, showed once again that it is no fluke, as he provided yet another assist for Cameroonian player Jean-Charles Castelletto in the 49th minute, to secure a win for Nantes.

The Nigerian winger, so far this season, has contributed to eight goals in total in twenty-one games.
