Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has agreed to join the Saudi Pro League this summer, according to former Premier League striker Mido.
Salah had attracted strong interest from Saudi side Al-Ittihad last year, with reports claiming that the Egypt international had been offered a contract worth at least £150 million over two seasons.
However, Salah opted to spend one more season at Liverpool and is now pushing to win more silverware in Jurgen Klopp’s final campaign at Anfield having lifted the Carabao Cup last weekend.
Salah’s contribution to Liverpool’s success has been immense, with 15 goals and 9 assists in 21 Premier League appearances so far. If Salah were to depart Liverpool this summer, it would undoubtedly be a significant loss for both the club and the Premier League as a whole.
Mido bold claims about Salah
Mido, a former Egypt international and West Ham and Tottenham striker, has claimed on social media that Salah will leave Liverpool at the end of the 2023-24 season, and says he has already put pen to paper on a Saudi Pro League contract.
Mido posted on X: ‘Mohamed Salah will be in the Saudi League next season. Contracts have been signed.’
Judging by Mido’s claims, one can’t help but to see some truth in that.
Saudi Pro League investment
Saudi Pro League clubs have spent in excess of £700 million on new signings over the past year and the division’s vice-chair, Saad Al Lazeez, insists the financial backing will not slow down.
‘This is a long-term investment. We are not in it for a season,’ he said at the Financial Times’ Business of Football Summit.
‘We are pleased with what has been achieved so far. In fact, I think we are a bit ahead of schedule.’
Al Lazeez was also adamant that Jordan Henderson’s move to Saudi Arabia was a success according to metro, despite the former Liverpool captain lasting just six months at Al-Ettifaq before leaving to join Ajax in the January transfer window.
‘Sometimes things do not work out, sometimes the player does not adapt, you expect those things to happen,’ he said.
