Vincent Enyeama, hailed as one of the greatest goalkeepers in the history of Nigeria’s national team, boasts an illustrious career with the Super Eagles.

With 101 appearances under his belt, the 41-year-old shot-stopper stands as one of the most successful players in Nigerian football history.

However, his journey took a controversial turn in 2015 when he retired following a disagreement with former Super Eagles boss Sunday Oliseh.

Since his departure, Enyeama has remained absent from the Super Eagles fold, except for a notable show of support during the last African Cup of Nations, when the team reached the final.

From goalkeeping legend to potential coach

However, in a recent interview, Enyeama made it clear that he is open to a return to the national team if called upon.

“Becoming a goalkeeper coach, first of all, I’m not yet certified. If they want me to be like Zidane, who was not yet certified, but Real Madrid had faith in him, it can happen,” Enyeama said.

“I don’t have a problem if they wake up tomorrow and say, Vincent, come and be part of the setup- I will gladly do it. I can never say no to my country, I have always said that.

“I can never say no to Nigeria. I will bring my experience over the years in Europe, and we will do it. But they have to call me first.”, he said, as reported by soccernet

Enyeama Eyes Super Eagles Return

Nuno Carrapato, the goalkeeper coach appointed by Jose Peseiro for the AFCON, has stepped down from his position with the expiration of Peseiro’s contract.

With Peseiro’s departure, Vincent Enyeama may see an opportunity to make a comeback for the Super Eagles, especially if the Nigeria Football Federation brings in a new coach.

However, there are other experienced names in Nigeria’s coaching pool, such as Ike Shorunmu and Abideen Baruwa, who have previously held the goalkeeper coach position.
