The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has yet to name a new Super Eagles head coach, sparking intense speculation within Nigerian football circles.
Okpala’s Bold Assertion on Super Eagles’ Position
In an exclusive interview with Punch, Okpala didn’t mince words as he threw his name into the mix, expressing confidence in his abilities to lead the Super Eagles to glory.
“The only thing I can say about Peseiro is that he has tried his best, but the game goes on,” Okpala remarked confidently. “I’m one of those that should replace him.”
Okpala’s confidence stems from a rich coaching career, including a significant role as assistant coach to Stephen Keshi during the teams’ triumphant 2013 AFCON campaign.
Reflecting on his past successes, Okpala emphasized, “I’ve won the Nations Cup as a player, and I have won it as an assistant coach to Keshi; the record is there. It is not easy. It’s not by luck or mathematics; it’s by knowledge.”
Confidence in the Current Squad
Drawing parallels between past glories and future potential, Okpala highlighted the talent within the current Super Eagles squad.
“We have players that can win the World Cup,” he asserted confidently. “So yes, if I am given a chance, I will do wonders with these boys.”
The race for the Nigeria head coach position continues to heat up, with Okpala adding his name to the list of contenders vying for the prestigious role.
