Bruno Fernandes achieves a remarkable milestone, setting an incredible record at Manchester United, surpassing a legend who played under Sir Alex Ferguson
Bruno Fernandes, aged 29, secures his place as Manchester United’s all-time leading goalscorer from the penalty spot during the Premier League match against Everton.
Bruno Fernandes success from the spot
Bruno Fernandes capitalized on a foul by James Tarkowski on Alejandro Garnacho in the box, earning Manchester United a penalty and a chance to take an 11th-minute lead.
The Red Devils’ skipper, displaying composure, confidently converted from 12 yards by slotting the ball low to Jordan Pickford’s left.
This successful spot-kick marked Fernandes’ 29th for Manchester United, with only four misses during his time at the club, boasting an impressive 88.9% conversion rate.
Bruno Fernandes sets new penalty record
Bruno Fernandes now surpasses Ruud van Nistelrooy, who previously held the record with 28 penalties out of 34 attempts.
Notably, one of Van Nistelrooy’s six misses occurred in a memorable encounter against Arsenal in 2003, marked by Martin Keown’s exuberant celebration.
In the same match against Everton, Fernandes had another chance to add to his tally when Ben Godfrey fouled Alejandro Garnacho.
However, he opted to let Marcus Rashford take the penalty. Despite the change in taker, the outcome remained consistent as Rashford confidently slotted the spot kick beyond Jordan Pickford.
While Bruno Fernandes has become Manchester United’s leading penalty scorer, he still has work to do to claim the top spot-kick taker title in the Premier League.
Fernandes has successfully converted 17 out of 21 Premier League penalties. Currently, Wayne Rooney holds the lead in this category, having scored 20 out of 28 spot kicks according to reports from TheSun.
Fernandes will aim to further enhance his record as he continues to make his mark from the penalty spot for Manchester United in the Premier League.
