Arsenal legend Cesc Fabregas has weighed in on Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou’s tactics, expressing some reservations despite acknowledging their effectiveness.

Fabregas, who began his coaching career last summer, believes that while Postecoglou’s approach is bold and requires trust in the players, it may lack proactive control.

Fabregas highlighted the high press and high defensive line employed by Postecoglou, noting that while it has led to impressive football at times, it can also leave the team vulnerable when results don’t go their way.

According to MetroSports, Fabregas referenced Tottenham’s 4-1 defeat to Chelsea last November as an example of the challenges posed by such tactics.

In Fabregas’s own words, “It is brave and you need to trust your players a lot. But for me you are not under control because you are basically reacting, you are not proactive.

You are reacting to their movements, you are reacting to whatever the striker wants to do.”

Fabregas sings Maddison praises

Despite his reservations about Tottenham’s tactics, Fabregas praised the quality of James Maddison, describing him as a ‘complete’ player who adds value to the team.

Overall, Fabregas’s comments offer a nuanced perspective on Tottenham’s playing style under Postecoglou, recognizing both its strengths and potential limitations.

“If he comes deep, I come with him. If he goes attacking the space, I go with him. I’m not a big fan of this because as I said, you are not in control of the situation.

He’s dictating the play for you,” Fabregas commented on the tactical approach, expressing his preference for a more proactive style where he can dictate play and take charge defensively based on the situation.

Despite his reservations, Fabregas has acknowledged Tottenham’s impressive performances this season, particularly highlighting the contributions of James Maddison.

Despite missing several games due to injury, Maddison has showcased confidence, personality, and versatility, impressing Fabregas with his ability to demand the ball, create opportunities, and contribute both offensively and defensively.
