On Saturday, Joan Laporta acknowledged that Barcelona turned down a 200 million offer for Lamine Yamal.
On March 9, MARCA exclusively reported that PSG, represented by Jorge Mendes, made the proposal for the Blaugrana forward, Lamine Yamal, which was rejected by Barcelona.
Barcelona rejected offer for Lamine Yamal
Joan Laporta revealed on Saturday that Barcelona rejected a staggering 200 million euro offer for Lamine Yamal, a revelation exclusively reported by MARCA on March 9. The proposal came from PSG, orchestrated by Jorge Mendes. Barcelona’s refusal stemmed from their belief in Yamal’s potential as the team’s future.
Explaining the decision, Laporta stated, “We have received offers for players like Lamine Yamal, for 200 million euros, and we have said no. Because we trust the boy, because he is the future of the team.”
He further elaborated, “Because we trust in the boy, in his sporting potential, and we don’t have the need, on the contrary. We are in a process of economic recovery and we are already seeing the end of the tunnel,” highlighting the club’s positive trajectory.
Barcelona financial situation
Given Barcelona’s current financial challenges, it’s conceivable that player sales may be necessary to address the situation. In this context, a transfer fee of 200 million for one of their players could indeed serve as a significant step towards restoring balance in their Financial Fair Play obligations.
However, the club’s stance on this matter is resolute, with the priority being to avoid weakening the team. “We have offers for all our youngsters Pedri, Balde, Gavi, Araujo… but we don’t want to sell our stars,” stated Laporta.
Lamine Yamal has already being branded as a Messi regen by Mallorca coach Javier Guirre for his blistering performances for the Laliga giants as earlier reported by Sports Buddy
As reported in MARCA, the pursuit of funds is now taking a different direction. Laporta is considering terminating the contract with Nike and seeking out other sponsors who can offer more lucrative deals for the club.
If he were to accept Puma’s proposal, Laporta would secure a bonus of 100 million upon signing the contract, in addition to the annual payments from the German brand, which surpass that amount.
