Mikel Arteta has provided an update on Gabriel Martinelli’s fitness ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League clash with Manchester City this weekend.
The Brazilian forward has been sidelined since sustaining an injury during Arsenal’s 6-0 victory over Sheffield United earlier this month.
Initially, the injury was described as a minor foot cut, but Martinelli missed subsequent matches against Brentford and Porto. Following the Champions League fixture against Porto, the 22-year-old was seen using crutches in the mixed zone, leading to speculation about a potentially longer absence.
However, reports suggesting a season-ending injury are believed to be inaccurate, according to information obtained by Football London.
Martinelli isn’t the only concern for Sunday’s match. Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Magalhaes also had to withdraw from international duty due to muscle and Achilles issues, respectively.
Mikel Arteta’s update on the trio
Mikel Arteta has now indicated that all three players could be in contention for the upcoming game, providing a significant boost for Arsenal.
“Yeah there is a chance,” when asked if the trio could play this weekend. “They haven’t trained. Tomorrow we have another session, but there is a chance they can be available.”, he said.
Manchester City however in recent reports from Sports Buddy has confirmed the unavailability of Kyle Walker and John Stones due to injuries sustained during international break.
The upcoming match at the Etihad Stadium presents a pivotal title showdown for both teams, with the outcome poised to have a substantial impact on the title race. Given Manchester United’s close pursuit, trailing Arsenal by just one point in third place, the result of this encounter holds tremendous significance.
