Sir Alex Ferguson’s Dubai Disappointment: Spirit Dancer Finishes Second Last
According to reports from TheSun, Legendary Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson endured a disappointing outing at the Dubai Sheema Classic, with his star horse Spirit Dancer finishing second last in the prestigious £5 million race.
A Race to Forget for Spirit Dancer
Jockey Oisin Orr couldn’t find a strong enough position throughout the race, leaving Spirit Dancer trailing behind the pack. This ultimately dashed any hopes of a challenge for the top spot.
A surprising victory unfolded instead, with a 28-1 outsider, Rebel’s Romance ridden by William Buick, claiming the top prize. Sharyar, another longshot at 33-1, secured the second-place finish, completing an unexpected upset.
While Spirit Dancer had previously brought Ferguson significant wins in his past three races, totaling £1.5 million, this time around, the horse remained at the back of the 12-runner field throughout the competition. By the time the race entered the final stretch, Rebel’s Romance had already established a lead, leaving Spirit Dancer with no chance to catch up.
Pre-race favorite Auguste Rodin, heavily favored at 5-4 odds, also suffered a disappointing outcome, finishing dead last.
Hope Remains Despite Setback
Despite the setback in Dubai, Ferguson expressed previous confidence in Spirit Dancer’s potential for the Sheema Classic. The horse had previously secured impressive victories in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
While the Dubai race didn’t go as planned, the bigger picture remains positive. The seven-year-old gelding is still young and has the potential to return for more major races in the Middle East under trainer Richard Fahey.
Sir Alex Horse Still Secures a Win on the Day
Although the Dubai Sheema Classic wasn’t Ferguson’s day, it wasn’t a complete loss. He managed to secure a victory at Wolverhampton with his aptly named horse, Road To Wembley. The 4-1 favorite lived up to expectations, winning the race and bringing home a £5,000 prize.
