South African footballer Luke Fleurs has tragically lost his life in a car hijacking incident in Johannesburg.
Kaizer Chiefs mourns the passing of Luke Fleurs
His current club, Kaizer Chiefs, confirmed this heartbreaking news on social media. They honored the memory of the 24-year-old and extended their deepest condolences to his loved ones.
The statement from the club expressed, “It is with a great deal of sadness that we announce that Kaizer Chiefs player, Luke Fleurs tragically lost his life last night during a hijacking incident in Johannesburg.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this difficult time. The SAPS are handling the matter and further details will be communicated in due course. May his dear soul rest in peace.”

Fleurs was shot during a carjacking at a petrol station in Florida on Wednesday night. Gunmen demanded his vehicle, then shot him before escaping.
Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, spokesperson for the Gauteng police, stated, “The suspects pointed [at] him with a firearm and took him out of his vehicle, then shot him once on the upper body,” according to The Mirror.

Fleurs’ career
Fleurs commenced his career at Ubuntu Cape Town before a five-year stint at SuperSport United. Last year, he made the move to Kaizer Chiefs.
Additionally, he has featured in several matches for the South African national team at the youth level. At the age of 24, Fleurs proudly represented his country at the Tokyo Olympics.
