Ex-Premier League Ref Boss Bemoans Ref and Says Kane Wrongfully Avoided Red Card Against Arsenal
Keith Hackett, the former head of Premier League referees, has sparked controversy by claiming Harry Kane should have been sent off during Bayern Munich’s Champions League clash with Arsenal.

Kane’s Elbow on Gabriel Draws Scrutiny
Harry Kane, who scored on his return to North London, was shown a yellow card for catching Arsenal defender Gabriel in the face with his elbow.
The incident occurred when The Bayern striker turned his head towards Gabriel while challenging for a ball in the air. His elbow connected with Gabriel’s throat.

Hackett Believes Kane Deserved Red Card
According to The Standard, Hackett believes the foul warranted a red card.
In an article for the Telegraph, he wrote: “Harry was very fortunate. His swinging elbow to Gabriel’s face was dangerous, reckless and used excessive force.”

Hackett argues that The Bayern striker knew what he was doing, evidenced by him looking back at Gabriel before the challenge.
He concludes that The Bayern striker used his elbow as a weapon and the swinging motion combined with the look at Gabriel leaves him with no defense.
Hackett: A Clear Red Card Offense
Hackett classifies the incident as “violent action” and believes it would have resulted in a red card in the Premier League.
He is confident that VAR would have upgraded the yellow card to a red if it had been reviewed.
Kane Escapes Punishment, But Controversy Lingers
Hackett concludes that The Bayern striker is “extremely lucky” to have avoided a red card.

This allows him to play in the second leg of the Champions League tie against Arsenal.
The controversial decision could have a significant impact on the outcome of the quarter-final matchup.
