Wolverhampton defender Matt Doherty issues warning to Arsenal ahead of clash

Ahead of their crucial Premier League match against Arsenal, Wolves defender Matt Doherty has issued a strong warning.

“We’ve taken plenty of big scalps this season,” Doherty said, hinting at Wolves’ potential to upset the Gunners’ title hopes.

The north Londoners are already facing pressure after their midweek defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League. Additionally, their trip to Molineux, where they’ve lost twice in their last five visits, promises to be a tough challenge.

“It’s obviously a big game, they still have a lot to play for.

‌”I’m not sure exactly what their record is coming to Molineux but I’m pretty certain they never have it that easy. It will be another tough game for them. Wolves have always taken scalps. We’ve beaten Chelsea twice this season, we’ve taken Man City, Spurs twice.

‌”For as long as I can remember we’ve always been capable of doing stuff like that. They’re going for the title – but it’s not going to be easy for them.”

Despite appearing to have little at stake this season, the 32-year-old asserts that the idea of Gary O’Neil’s team being ‘on the beach’ couldn’t be further from reality.

“I think that’s a myth. I don’t know if that has actually happened for anyone mentally.

“I don’t know of any club, or any management staff that would ever allow that. I know some results at the end of the season can make people think that but that’s never the case.

“You’re always playing for something, whether it’s finishing in a certain position to earn more points and more financial incentives, we’re always playing for something. Every point matters – every position you finish in the league matters to us,” he added, as per The Mirror.

Wolves welcome back striking duo for Arsenal clash

O’Neil’s squad received a significant boost with the return of their strikers who performed admirably in the initial stages of the season. Hee-Chan Hwang made a cameo appearance from the bench during the recent 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest.

Moreover, Matheus Cunha, starting his first game since recovering from a hamstring injury, marked his comeback with an impressive individual goal, contributing to his brace that secured a valuable point at the City Ground. Doherty remarked, “We’ve faced numerous injuries, but with several players returning, we can immediately witness the impact they have on the team.”
