Djokovic Claims Record-Equalling Fifth Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Award
Novak Djokovic, the world No. 1 in tennis, has secured a record-tying fifth Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award. This recognition comes after a dominant year for Djokovic, which saw him clinch three Grand Slam titles (Australian Open, French Open, US Open) and reach the Wimbledon final before falling to Carlos Alcaraz.
Djokovic Reflects on Accomplishment
The 36-year-old expressed his honor at receiving the award: “I am incredibly honoured to have won my fifth Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Award. I can still recall 2012, when I won it for the first time at the age of 24. Standing here 12 years later, reflecting on a year that brought immense excitement and success to me and my fans, fills me with immense pride.”
Djokovic acknowledged the contributions of his team and fellow competitors: “Winning my 10th Australian Open title in January was a thrilling experience. This tournament holds a special place in my heart, and it set the tone for an incredible year.

Bonmati Makes History as Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year
Aitana Bonmati, a midfielder for Barcelona, etched her name in history by becoming the first footballer to win the Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year award. Bonmati’s stellar year included league and Champions League victories with Barcelona, a World Cup triumph with Spain, the World Cup Golden Ball, and a Ballon d’Or win.
“I am honored to receive the Laureus Sportswoman of the Year Award,” Bonmati remarked. “The recognition of my incredible teammates as the Laureus World Sports Academy’s Team of the Year brings me immense joy as well.”
Bonmati expressed her admiration for past winners and her aspirations: “It is humbling to see the list of past winners of this Award. These are all incredible athletes who have not only excelled in their sports but have also served as inspiring role models for young women and girls.
Serena Williams, Simone Biles, Lindsey Vonn, Naomi Osaka, and last year’s winner Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce are just a few examples. Being the first footballer to receive this award makes it much more special, and I hope to represent my sport with the same distinction as these great champions.”
