After a devastating 4-0 defeat at Selhurst Park, Manchester United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, expressed his fury with five players over their defending from a throw-in that led to Crystal Palace’s opening goal on Monday night.
Ten Hag was highly critical of his team’s performance, asserting that his players ‘let each other down’ during the match. Despite the mounting pressure over his future, he vowed to continue fighting.
Defensive lapse: Erik Ten Hag’s frustration
The manager singled out the manner in which they conceded their first goal, as Palace effortlessly navigated through United’s defense following a throw-in, culminating in Michael Olise finding the back of the net.

Ten Hag’s post-game comments reflected his disappointment and frustration with the team’s defensive lapse, highlighting the need for improvement moving forward.
”Professionals shouldn’t allow this. It was such an easy giveaway goal.
”Five players over the ball when they have a throw-in and it’s not the first time this season.
”I know we have young players, but even young players should learn when they play in the first-team they should take responsibility,” the Dutch manager said, as per Daily Mail.

Although Erik ten Hag refrained from naming the players he criticized, Jamie Carragher’s analysis on Sky Sports after the game shed light on who the Dutchman may have been referring to.
Carragher’s analysis: Players critiqued by Ten Hag
Carragher highlighted Kobbie Mainoo, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Christian Eriksen, Alejandro Garnacho, and Mason Mount as the players Ten Hag might have been tearing into.
Specifically, Carragher pointed out Eriksen’s positioning during the throw-in, arguing that the veteran Danish midfielder marked an opposing player in a position where the ball wouldn’t likely go.

”What is Wan-Bissaka doing there, just doing nothing. He could easily go in there (in front of Jean-Phillipe Mateta) and Mainoo can go there (in front of Olise).
”But again, leadership, organisation, no one taking responsibility. Eriksen gets thrown to the floor, Casemiro was just a joke, how does he run that far with no one getting near him (Olise),” Carragher said.
