Finidi George Unveiled as New Super Eagles Coach
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) officially introduced former Ajax star Finidi George as the new head coach of the Super Eagles on Monday.
Contract Details Remain Unclear
While Finidi signed his contract during the unveiling ceremony, the NFF did not disclose the specifics of the agreement. There has been speculation that it is a one-year contract, but this has not been officially confirmed.
Amokachi, James, and Ozturk Join Finidi’s Staff
Finidi will be assisted by a team of experienced professionals. His former teammate Daniel Amokachi will be on the coaching staff, along with former Shooting Stars player Benjamin James and analyst Mehmet Ozturk.
Chima Onyeike, a fitness trainer who has experience working in Russia, Germany, and Greece, will also be part of the coaching staff. Olatunji Baruwa will return as the goalkeeper trainer for the Super Eagles.
Salary and Assistant Coach Pay
According to reports, Finidi’s contract includes a monthly salary of $45,000, which is approximately N65,038,050 based on the current exchange rate. It is unclear whether the assistant coaches will receive a fixed salary or be compensated on a match-by-match basis.
Focus on Upcoming World Cup Qualifiers
Finidi’s immediate focus will be on preparing the Super Eagles for their crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin, which will take place in June.
