Liverpool’s star forward Mohamed Salah could be entering his final season at the club, with his contract expiring next summer. Talksport pundit Danny Murphy weighs in on potential replacements if the Egyptian departs Anfield.
Should Salah Leave, Who Takes His Place?
Murphy acknowledges the importance of Salah’s goals and believes Liverpool will need a replacement if he leaves. While discussing new manager Arne Slot‘s ability to unlock Darwin Nunez’s potential, Murphy highlights the need for a prolific scorer:

“It depends on whether Salah stays. If he goes, they’ll need to bring someone else in, someone who can step up and score consistently.”
However, Murphy is hesitant to sell him unless the player himself pushes for a move. He acknowledges Salah’s age and value, suggesting a £100 million transfer fee could be a tipping point.
“I wouldn’t sell Salah unless he wants to leave,” said Murphy. “It depends on the amount of money offered. He’s 31, and if a £100 million offer comes in and he wants to go, then it makes sense to sell.”
Murphy’s Bold Replacement Suggestion: Olise & Eze for the Price of One
When asked about potential replacements like Jarrod Bowen or Mohammed Kudus, Murphy offers a surprising suggestion. He proposes using the hypothetical £100 million from a Salah sale to acquire Crystal Palace‘s attacking duo, Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze.
“I wouldn’t go for either Bowen or Kudus,” said Murphy. “If I got £100 million for Salah, I’d give it all to Palace and buy Olise and Eze. You’d get two talented players for the price of one!”
Murphy acknowledges the ambitious nature of his suggestion, especially considering the importance of both players to Crystal Palace.

However, he highlights their impressive stats and growing reputations:
“Olise has been a standout young talent, scoring 16 goals and assisting 25 across all competitions since joining Palace in 2021. Eze, in the attacking midfield role, has also been impressive, contributing 26 goals and 17 assists in 124 appearances.”
With both players under contract until 2027 and performing well under manager Oliver Glasner, Palace could face a summer of heavy transfer interest. Murphy’s suggestion may be bold, but it highlights the potential dilemma Liverpool face if they lose a player like Mohamed Salah.
