The highly anticipated 2024 European Championship (EURO 2024), which will take place in Germany, is just a few weeks away.
There will be several eagerly awaited matches between strong footballing nations that will attempt to establish themselves as Europe’s best team, since elite sides are scattered around the continent.
In this article, Sports Buddy will be looking at the favorites to win the EURO 2024.
Who are EURO 2024’s favourites?
England
England are clear favorites going into Euro 2024 and are eager to win their long-elusive first championship. Still, the 2021 competition is a new reminder of how unpredictable the Euros are by nature. It was only two years ago that Italy surprised everyone by winning the trophy in spite of having missed the last World Cup and not making it to the current one.
The Three Lions are a team to watch when they take the field for Euro 2024 because they have a wealth of youthful potential and a real chance to win the championship. Jude Bellingham, a Ballon d’Or candidate whose spectacular Real Madrid performances have captured the attention of people all across the world, is leading the charge.
But in the Euros, history is a fickle teacher. Even if England has a roster full of stars, previous competitions have shown that underdogs can be just as successful. A rare opportunity exists in the Euros, whereby any team may ignite and leave their mark on the trophy for one month.
France
With a strong desire to win a Euro championship for the first time since 2000, France is seated comfortably as the second favorite. It might be difficult to repeat that previous success, though, since they have only made it to the semifinals once since then.
Germany
Germany are the next in line to compete, helped by home advantage. Playing at home might rekindle their flame despite recent World Cup setbacks and a lengthy journey (only making it to the semi-finals twice) since their success in 1996.
Portugal
Portugal are also favourites to win the EURO 2024. Roberto Martinez’s side had an impressive run during the qualification stages and can not be sidelined when it comes to picking favourites in the competition.
With a very potent attack having 5-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo, Goncalo Ramos, Rafael Rafael Leão with many other talented players in the midfield position and defense, they stand a great chance of lifting the trophy for the second time in their history.
Italy
Italy are also favorite, despite their daramatic journey over the last ten years, which included an unexpected victory at Euro 2021. Their early radiance has faded in light of their recent failures in both the World Cup and Euro qualifiers.
Spain
In this tournament, Spain are a little bit underrated. They should be able to go from their group, which includes both giant-killers Croatia and reigning champions Italy.
Since it has already been shown that surprises abound in the EURO event, the La Roja cannot be disregarded because they have the ability to surprise everyone.
Notable mentions
Other notable mentions include Belgium, Croatia, and Serbia who have a very strong squad that can challenge against any team in the tournament.
