As the 2023–2024 Premier League season draws to a close, Sports Buddy reflects on the season’s biggest winners and losers
Who are the winners of the 2023–2024 Premier League season?
Aston Villa

The Villans fall into this category as a result of their impressive season, which saw them clinch Champions league spot for the first time in their history. Having ended up in 7th place last season, finishing in 4th place will be deemed a success.
Everton

The Toffees were deducted a total eight points this season for breaking profit and sustainability rules (PSR), as per BBC. Despite this, they still managed to secure their safety from relegation, thanks to an impressive run of form in the later stages of the Premier League.
Nottingham Forest

Just like Everton, Forest also suffered a four-points deduction for breaching Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules (PSR). They managed to secure safety on the final day of the season after a tough season filled with setbacks and controversy, which puts them on this list.
Tothenham

After losing Harry Kane in the summer, a tough season was envisaged for Spurs. However, the North-London club managed to navigate their way through to finish in fifth place, securing Europa football against next season.
Manchester United

The Red Devils’ inclusion on the list would definitely raise eyebrows, as they had a poor league campaign which saw them finish the season in 8th position, out of European places.
However, Erik Ten Hag’s men found a way to secure a place in Europa by defeating Manchester City in the FA Cup final. A trophy and securing European football will definitely be deemed as a big win for the Red Devils, considering their tough season, which was plagued with injuries to important players.
Who are the losers?
Arsenal

The Gunners finished in second place on the Premier Legaue table. A tough title contest, saw them lose the league title to Manchester City for a second consecutive season on the last day. Judging with their impressive performances through out the season, ending the campaign without a trophy will be deemed as a huge loss.
Chelsea

Like Manchester United, the Blues had a very tough league campaign. However, an impressive run of form which saw them amass 27 points out of a possible 36, helped them to a 6th place finish.
Having managed to slip into the Europa spot at the final stages of the season would have counted as a win for them but their hopes where dashed when Manchester United beat City in the FA cup final. United’s win meant the Blues will not be playing in the Europa but the Conference League next season.
Manchester City

Despite their Premier League triumph, the Cityzens find themselves on this list, due to their recent FA Cup final loss to the Red Devils. Having celebrated winning the treble last season, they are left with only the league title this campaign.
Liverpool

Liverpool’s hopes of securing a quadruple were dashed within a matter of weeks, despite initially being in contention for all four trophies.
With Liverpool holding excellent positions in several tournaments, the news of Jurgen Klopp’s impending exit had inspired dreams of a fairy-tale ending. However, they only managed to clinch the Carabao Cup, as their dreams of a quadruple win crumbled before their eyes.
Newcastle

The Magpies fall into the losers category considering how they missed out on European football. A torrid season saw them fail to replicate the previous campaing’s achievement, where they ended the season in the top four. United’s win meant they will not be playing in the Conference League next season, having concluded the season in 7th place.
Finishing three spots below last season and missing out on European football will be deemed a loss, having found themselves in a good position to make European places three games to the end of the season.
