Barcelona is facing challenges in officially registering their new coach Hansi Flick due to ongoing financial issues.
Appointment of Hansi Flick
The former Bayern Munich and German national team head coach was appointed as new Barcelona boss on Wednesday. This followed the club’s decision to sack former coach Xavi. Xavi had initially planned to leave in January. He reversed his decision at club’s request only to be dismissed later after a disagreement.
Registration Delays
Board members swiftly brought Flick to the Nou Camp. He signed a two-year contract. However as reported by Marca, he is yet to be registered with LaLiga. This delay is not unprecedented as Barcelona had faced similar registration issues with players and staff in recent seasons due to financial constraints.
Financial Constraints
Barcelona’s financial difficulties have previously caused delays in assigning shirt numbers to first-team players. The club had to activate economic levers. They sold future broadcasting and image rights for immediate cash injections.
In bid to resolve this crisis, Barcelona sold 49% of “Barca Studios” to investors during financial low two years ago. They are also considering selling part of the club to private individuals. They are still awaiting an £85.5m payment from Libero. Libero bought portion of “Barca Studios”, a similar deal with Nike is also anticipated. Both payments are aimed at addressing financial shortfall.
President Joan Laporta has assured fans that new players will be recruited. But additional cash injections are required. The club must also reduce its wage bill. To comply with LaLiga’s spending rules.
Xavi’s Warning
Former coach Xavi in his final match in charge, warned that his replacement would face significant challenges due to financial situation. “To the new manager I tell you, you will suffer,” he said after Barcelona’s 2-1 win over Sevilla. “This job is difficult and you will have to be patient.”
Barcelona continues to seek solutions to their financial problems. They aim to register Hansi Flick as soon as possible so that he can resume his job as the new manager.
