A massive 22 players have been released from Arsenal’s men’s and women’s teams ahead of the expiration of their contracts this month.

Manchester City defeated Mikel Arteta’s team to win the Premier League for the second year in a row.

The women’s squad, meanwhile, won the League Cup despite being third in the WSL behind champions Chelsea and Manchester City.

Both teams, in preparation to improve on the previous season’s achievements, have started a team revamp, which has seen several players discharged. 19 players were discharged from the men’s team, with their contracts about to expire on June 30.

Notable among the revealed list names is Mohamed Elneny, who will be leaving Arsenal after eight years in north London. The Egyptian midfielder made 161 appearances for the team and was a member of the 2017 FA Cup-winning team.

Right-back Cedric Soares will also be leaving after joining on loan from Southampton in 2020 and making 64 appearances over the course of five years.

In the women’s squad, star striker Vivianne Miedema will be leaving the club following last month’s announcement of her departure.

According to Mail Sports, it is understood that the club decided not to renew Miedema’s contract, however, the forward is still highly regarded.
