During Sunday’s Soccer Aid charity match with Nigerian star John Obi Mikel and others, legendary Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt damaged his Achilles tendon, severely hurting his ambitions of becoming a professional football player.
The eight-time Olympic gold winner and world record holder led a World XI celebrity team against an England squad that included former internationals like Jermain Defoe and Theo Walcott at Stamford Bridge.
Usain Bolt suffers horrific injury
Sadly, Bolt’s brief appearance was cut short when, he went down clutching his leg, seemingly sustaining an Achilles injury.
In spite of the disappointment, the 37-year-old promised on social media that he would overcome this latest setback..
“Raptured Achilles but done know we a warrior,” Bolt wrote, as he promises to bounce back, making it clear that the injury would not stop him from his football ambitions
Mikel Obi benched
Former Chelsea midfielder was also present at the charity game but was an unused substitute. Although Chelsea’s cult icon was expected to make a comeback, Mauricio Pochettino did not deploy him as a replacement. Reports state that Mikel was sidelined due to an injury he sustained during training.
