Spain’s Nico Williams has received a lot of praise for his performances at the ongoing Euro 2024 from his brother Inaki Williams.
The season was very fruitful for the Athletic Bilbao pair, after they brought the club their first trophy in 40 years by winning the Copa del Rey in April. However only Nico was eligible to represent the Spaniards in German.
Different Paths for Williams Brothers
The Williams brothers were given birth to in Spain with Ghanian origins; their parents left Ghana in a dangerous search for a more comfortable life in Europe.
They moved to the Basque Country where Inaki was born in 1994 and later on they were blessed with Nico in the year 2002.
The brothers entered Athletic Bilbao system and began playing together when Nico promoted to the first team in 2021. But they took divergent courses at the international level.
Inaki initially represented Spain at the youth level but for a long time, he hoped in vain for his first call to the senior national team even though he was in good form in La Liga.
However, before the 2022 FIFA world Cup, he changed his loyalty to Ghana, representing the country of birth of his parents. The decision to do this was prompted by individual and family circumstances, such as his interaction with his grandfather.
On the other hand, Nico made his debut for Spain senior team in September 2022 after featuring for their junior teams.
Inaki’s Support for Nico
Nico, who often plays for Ghana and has been regularly receiving appraisals, recently his brother Inaki’s praised his performances especially after he came out shining in the Spain’s 1-0 victory over Italy where he was awarded the Player of the Match.
Inaki also took to social media to express his pride and wrote “Pure cinema Junior. Starboy.
” Nico was quick to narrate that his elder brother immediately messaged him right after the match and told him how proud he was of him in the way he represented the Williams surname in football.
