Germany fans have started a petition to have their match against Spain in Euro 2024 replayed.
Friday night’s quarterfinal match ended in controversy after extra time as Mikel Merino’s header in the 119th minute gave Spain a 2-1 victory, after Germany had a penalty shout earlier in extra time.
Marc Cucurella’s arm was struck by a strike from Jamal Musiala, but referee Anthony Taylor signaled for play to continue, despite calls for a penalty from the home crowd.
VAR upheld the English referee’s on-field decision, prompting fans to lunch a petition>
Subsequently, it was disclosed that, under to Uefa regulations for the competition, a penalty ought to have been given.

The campaign is calling for a rematch of the game since there were “many wrong decisions,” with the penalty incident being the most notable of all.
With about 350,000 fans having already signed it, reaching the next target of 500,000 signatures is almost certain.
Germany Manager Julian Nagelsmann on decision

After the game, Germany’s manager Julian Nagelsmann talked about the decision and urged the handball rule to be changed.
“There is a rule and I hope there is no wrong decision. They applied the rule and it was not a penalty. I do not feel cheated, Nagelsmann told reporters.
“For me the question is about making it more practical, more logical, in terms of how this [handball] rule is assessed. I say this for football [in general] not today.
“You look at the hand, if it is at 3 o’clock, if it is a bit higher or a bit lower. But there are people with bigger muscles than me, different movements,” he added, per The Sun.
