Nigeria are poised to intensify their search for a replacement for already-departed Super Eagles boss Finidi George as they consider a move for former Zambia and Ivory Coast manager Herve Renard.
NFF eye Renard as Super Eagles coach
Sports Buddy previously reported that the NFF reportedly announced before Finidi left as head coach of the Super Eagles that they would be appointing a foreign technical adviser to manage the national team. Renard was one of the names mentioned as a possible candidate.
Renard is the current manager of the French women’s national team, but he will leave the position after leading them to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Nigeria reportedly increased their efforts to sign Renard after putting in an offer to the French coach, but they will have to contend with Egypt, who also view the former coach of Saudi Arabia as a possible successor to Rui Vitoria, who was fired following a dismal 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.
Renard’s achievements
Renard gained recognition on the continent by winning the AFCON twice before taking on the role of coach for Saudi Arabia and France women.
The Frenchman made history in 2012 when he surprised everyone by winning the AFCON with Zambia, who were an underdog in the competition. He then repeated the feat in 2015 with the Ivory Coast.
