PATRICE EVRA: Tragic! Manchester United legend sentenced to prison in his home country France

Former Manchester United and Juventus defender Patrice Evra has been handed a 12-months jail term for family abandonment, according to Transfer News on X.

The punishment was handed on July 9 by the criminal court in Nanterre for overdue unpaid alimony, amounting to hundreds of thousands of euros.

The Nanterre Prosecutor’s Office recommended a prison sentence with probation suspension and provisional execution (which is already subject to a number of requirements stipulated by the judge).

Evra faces accusations that he owes his ex-wife, with whom he has two children, 900,000 euros in unpaid alimony.

“I hope that, thanks to this decision, Patrice Evra finally understands that he is not above the law and that we cannot abandon our wife and children overnight.

Even more so when they met when he was 15 years old and she followed him all over the world to support his football career,” Nathalie Dubois, a civil lawyer, told the source.

Evra disputes judgement

However, the former football player and current sports analyst has disputed the facts and disagreed with the sentencing.

Evra claims that he has already settled his debt. Jerome Boursican, his attorney, stated, “Mr Patrice Evra filed an appeal knowing that he had provided his wife with a flat, a house with a swimming pool in the south of France and had lent her almost 2 million euros for her daily life. A sum she refuses to pay back”.

It is not the first instance that Evra has encountered legal issues. In February 2023, the Paris police court found him guilty of making homophobic remarks.

Meanwhile, Sports Buddy previously reported that former Ajax star Quincy Promise, who was sentenced to prison for drug trafficking, was subjected to the ‘Worst torture’ as he’s at risk of being raped and exposed to freezing cold in jail.
