Alvarez has played 103 games in two seasons at the Ethiad, tallying 36 goals and 18 assists, although most of his contribution has been as an auxiliary player to Erling Haaland, coming off the bench.

According to Marca, earlier sources stated that City turned down an offer for Alvarez from Atletico Madrid.
Alvarez is also being eyed by Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain as well. He is reportedly eager to play more frequently as a central striker.
