Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta revealed in a recent interview that his team would need to hit 114 points to beat Manchester City to the Premier League title next season.
The last two Premier League seasons saw the Gunners go toe-to-toe with City for the title. However, they failed to win their first league title since 2004, with the last edition being decided on the final match day.
Both teams were separated by two points on the final match day, as Pep Guardiola’s side emerged as league champions for a fourth consecutive season.
Arteta has now claimed that Arsenal needs perfection to beat a stubborn City side to the league title next season.
What Mikel Arteta said
‘’I think the message is clear – we need more from everybody. More from everybody includes me.
‘’I need to raise the standards, I need to bring something I haven’t brought yet. Individually and collectively the same.
‘’The more we do that, the better the chance it’s going to be to win the Premier League. This is what we want basically, Arteta said, per All Football.
On what it will take to topple Manchester City to the league, he said:
‘’114 points. If we do that, we win the league for sure.
‘’This is the objective, from there we’ll see what we get. Earn the right to win it and have the biggest probability over the opponent.
‘‘When we have difficulties that we are still better than the opponents. That’s really the objective.’’
Arteta believes the Gunners need to win all 38 league matches, accruing a total of 114 points, in order to beat City to the title.
It is worth noting that no team has ever won all league games in a Premier League campaign, with Liverpool and Manchester City having the highest number of victories at 32.
Meanwhile, Sports Buddy recently reported that Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has orchestrated yet another raid on his former team, Manchester City, as the Gunners aim to go toe-to-toe against the Citizens for a third consecutive season in pursuit of the title.
