Chelsea defender and biggest dissenter of the ‘Enzo Fernandez video’ Wesley Fofana has reacted after seeing the Argentine midfielder for the first time since the scandal.
Fernandez, who moved to Chelsea in January 2023, was caught in a storm of controversy after a video surfaced showing him and his Argentine teammates celebrating their Copa America win with a chant aimed at the French national team.
The midfielder joined the rest of the squad on Monday in Atalanta and he immediately apologised to his teammates, with the apology understood to be accepted.
What Wesley Fofana said
Following the apology, Fofana came out to speak in favour of Fernandez.
“Enzo Fernandez said sorry. He did not want to hurt French fans or anyone,” he said, per Sky Sports.
“He did not understand when singing it, I trust him. Because I know him. I know Enzo. He is not racist. I’m happy to see Enzo back. We play together. We need to stay together. We’re strong together.
“If I’m on one side and Enzo is on the other side and we fight every day or we don’t talk or we’re not happy, then we don’t play well! It’s all ok now,” he added.
