Chelsea have revealed their plans for Enzo Fernandez following a dressing-room meltdown, which was caused by an offensive video that was recorded on the Argentine midfielder’s Instagram live video.
As previously reported by Sports Buddy, the footage shows Enzo and a number of Argentine players chanting an offensive song that their supporters created during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, referencing the heritage of France’s players.
This sparked an uproar within the Blues squad, with a large number of members of the team, especially the French players, unfollowing or snubbing him on Instagram.
Sports Buddy previously mentioned three players who were the first to do so, with defender Wesley Fofana leading the charge as he posted on social media, “Football in 2024: Uninhibited Racism.”
Enzo Fernandez’s apology
Enzo Fernandez has issued an apology for his actions; however, an inside source said ”it is not enough,” according to The Sun.
Fernandez posted on Instagram: “I want to apologize sincerely for a video posted on my Instagram channel during the national team celebrations. The song includes highly offensive language, and there is absolutely no excuse for these words.
“I stand against discrimination in all forms and apologize for getting caught up in the euphoria of our Copa America celebrations. That video, that moment, and those words do not reflect my beliefs or my character. I am truly sorry.”
Chelsea issues statement
Following the £106 million World Cup winner’s apology, Chelsea issued a statement, revealing their next line of action on the situation.
The statement read: “We acknowledge and appreciate our player’s public apology and will use this as an opportunity to educate. The club has instigated an internal disciplinary procedure.”
