2024 Paris Olympics bomb alert
According to Bild a specialist bomb squad was called to scene and part of the surrounding area was cordoned off. The nearby Saint Denis Porte de Paris train station was also closed as a precaution.
The 2024 Paris Olympics began a week ago. Many events, including today’s are taking place at Stade de France in northern Paris.
Fortunately, the stadium was empty when the alert was issued this afternoon. This happened shortly after the first Olympic session of the day concluded at 1pm.
The second event isn’t scheduled to begin until shortly around 6pm, at the facility, which can accommodate over 80,000 people.
Things have returned to normal in the area as of 5 p.m. in Paris, a reporter on the ground reports.
CBC correspondent Devin Heroux said the venues are “packed” and “energetic,” and fans are heading to the Stade de France for the opening night session of Athletics.
He wrote on X: “Upwards of 70,000 expected”, above a picture of fans heading into a train station.
Meanwhile, Sports Buddy reported in other news that Imane Khelif won a match at the ongoing Olympics defeating her rival Angela Carini who was reduced to tears just 46seconds into the bout.
