Nigerian athlete Favour Ofili has sent a strong warning to other 200-meter contenders at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Favour Ofili shines among big names
Ofili, who recently secured a spot in the semi-finals, finishing as the winner in heat six with a season best (SB) of 22,24 seconds, has sent a scathing warning to her fellow competitors.
The Nigerian was placed with European and African champions Gina Bass and Dina Asher-Smith on lane two.
Having won her heat ahead of European champions Dina Asher-Smith and Gina Bass, the African champion, Ofili, also emerged with the second-best overall time, surprising newly crowned 100-meter female Olympics champion Julien Alfred’s time.
Favour Ofili’s warning
After winning the race, the Nigerian revealed that she is not fazed by big names as she is confident in her abilities.
“Mentally I am ready… All I know is when I step on that track, I’m going to cross the line before anybody else,” the 21-year-old Nigerian athlete said, in an exclusive interview with Making of Champions.
“I don’t care what you ran before coming in here, we are all the same because we are Olympians,” she added.
Having cruised into the semi-finals in style, Ofili showed why she is regarded as one of the best sprinters in Nigeria, despite recent disappointments, which saw her name being omitted as one of the participants for the recently concluded 100-meter race.
She will be aiming to replicate last round’s impressive performance when she competes in the 200-meter semi-finals on Monday.
