During a friendly match against Al-Wehda in preparation for the new season, Granada CF dedicated a tribute to the former Super Eagles attacker Odion Ighalo who played for the Spanish club.

As Granada faced Al-Wehda in a friendly that ended in a 1-1 draw before Granada clinched a 5-4 victory on penalties, the Spanish club used the occasion to celebrate the striker.

Before the match, they offered him a framed jersey with his name and the number of games he played for the club.

This was a way of acknowledging the Nigerian striker’s efforts while in the team for five seasons with Granada.

A Warm Welcome Back

The official social media handle of Granada posted a video that captured Ighalo’s arrival with the message, “Esta siempre será tu casa, @ighalojude,” which translates to “This will always be your home, @ighalojude. ”

The moment brought back memories of a rich period in his time at Granada, the club where he played 132 games, made 38 goals, and six assists.

Odion Ighalo who hinted in the past about his retirement according to a Sportsbuddy report saying, “Yeah, not long, because you get tired, the body is not the same way it used to be. Sometimes you enjoy the game, but I don’t kill myself about it.”

Ighalo now represents Al-Wehda in Saudi Arabia and aptly demonstrated this by scoring a goal against his former team during the match.

After that he grabbed the special gift and asked his Al-Wehda teammates to take the picture with him for the emotional picture.

Having left Granada, Ighalo joined other teams such as Udinese, Watford as well as the Manchester United and later on moved to Saudi Arabia.
