Both Alex Iwobi and ola Aina back Mikel Obi ‘s suggestion that Nigerian players must dedicate themselves 100% to the national cause.
Speaking his thoughts, Mikel who is a Chelsea legend was a part of the victorious 2013 AFCON squad that was coached by the late Stephen Keshi stated categorically that any player, who is eligible to represent the Super Eagles, should not think of having the team as a plan B.

Mikel Obi went further citing Shola Ameobi’s decision to answer the Eagles call after he was 29, as a disrespect to representing Nigeria as previously reported by Sportsbuddy.
Supporting the Call for Commitment
Alex Iwobi and Ola Aina who both represented the England youth teams before they dumped it for the Super eagles have supported Mikel Obi’s opinion.
Aina, addressing the issue in his YouTube channel, said, “Nigeria is not a second option, we should not be regarded as a second option, two different countries, you have to make a choice, and I concur with him. ”
Feeling at Home with Nigeria

Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi said the same as his fellow country man Aina, sharing how he immediately felt at home when he joined the Nigeria’s U-23 team.
“I had an invitation to the England U-21 but I wanted to try out Nigeria and I was invited to the U-23 and when I got to camp, I felt like I was among my people and I never looked back ever since” Iwobi remarked.
It is important to have this conversation given that there are several players such as Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori, Jamal Musiala, and Eberechi Eze among others who rejected Nigeria to play for other countries.
