FROM HERO TO VILLAIN! Fans react as Nigerian-born Manchester United new signing costs Red Devils points against Brighton

Manchester United

Saturday’s early kick-off between Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester United ended in a disappointing 2-1 defeat for the Red Devils.

Erik ten Hag’s men fought valiantly to get back on level terms with Brighton, courtesy of Amad Diallo’s deflected strike, after trailing the hosts via Danny Welbeck’s first-half goal.

However, the Red Devils crumbled in the end after conceding a late header from João Pedro with just a few minutes left to play.

But United thought they had gone 2-1 up moments before Pedro’s goal, when Alejandro Garnacho got on the end of Bruno Fernandes’ low cross.

United thought they had gone ahead after Garnacho’s goal

Garnacho struck the ball right at Joshua Zirkzee, who was already in an offside position.

Summer signing, Zirkzee, failed to get out of the way as his knee struck the ball before it went into the net, leading to the goal being disallowed.

This unfortunate incident has sparked reactions from fans, who took to social media to express their pain.

Another user wrote, ‘‘Zirkzee’s fault for sure just wanted to be the one to score,” blaming the Dutch star for getting in the way of the goal.

A third replied,  “He want to be in scoresheet so bad.”

A fourth wrote, ”Brutal way to wake up after a tough Friday night out”

While a fifth commented, ”Zirkzee gave Manchester United 3 points last week and took 3 points from Manchester United this week.”

This comes after an impressive Premier League debut for Joshua Zirkzee.

The Dutch striker of Nigerian descent was the hero in last Friday’s league opening win over Fulham., coming  off the bench  to score the only goal of the game, handing Ten Hag’s side three points.
