Nigerians would be counting on Austin Eguaveon to steer the Super Eagles out of troubled waters, following recent struggles on and off the pitch.
Eguaveon was recently appointed as interim coach after the NFF failed to secure a deal with German manager Bruno Labbadia.
The 59-year-old will now lead the Nigerian national team for their two AFCON qualifier games against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
Two NPFL coaches joins Eguaveon for Super Eagles role
To strengthen Eguaveon’s coaching crew, two prominent NPFL coaches have been appointed as assistants ahead of the crucial games coming up.
Fidelis Ilechukwu, who recently won the league title with Rangers FC, and Daniel Ogunmodede, the head coach of runners-up Remo Stars, have been appointed to support Eguavoen for the AFCON qualifiers games, according to Oganla Media on X.
The decision to appoint Ilechukwu and Ogunmodede, two of the NPFL’s most successful coaches in recent years, despite the failed Finidi George era, is seen as a move to inject fresh ideas and local knowledge into the Super Eagles setup.
The Super Eagles have their backs against the wall for the crucial matches against Benin Republic and Rwanda, and the arrival of Ilechukwu and Ogunmodede is seen as a game-changer as the team strives to secure their spot in the next continental competition.
