Head coach of the Benin Republic, Gernot Rohr, acknowledged that Nigeria was not at their best when his team claimed a 2-1 victory in their last encounter.
The match, held at the Olympic Stadium in Ivory Coast, saw Nigeria score first before Benin turned the game around. Rohr, who previously coached Nigeria, led Benin to a memorable win in June but admits the Super Eagles are a much stronger team now.

Nigeria’s Stronger Squad for AFCON Qualifier
As Benin and Nigeria prepare to meet again today in their AFCON 2025 qualifiers, Rohr recognizes the challenge ahead in his pre-match conference.
He noted that key players like Victor Osimhen and Ola Aina, who were absent in their last encounter, will make Nigeria a more formidable opponent.

“Nigeria has a complete team. In June, we did not see Osimhen, Aina, and others. We know it will be more difficult here,” Rohr said, expressing respect for the strengthened squad.
Rohr’s Familiarity with Nigeria: An Advantage?
Rohr also highlighted the advantage of his deep knowledge of Nigerian football, having managed the Super Eagles in the past.

He believes this familiarity gives Benin a slight edge. However, he pointed out the vast difference in resources between the two teams, stating, “With Nigeria, there is an unlimited pool of big league players to choose from.
Unfortunately, Benin does not have the same advantage.” Despite the disparity, Rohr remains optimistic that his youthful team can compete well against the Super Eagles.
