Nigeria’s Super Eagles stumble one place down to be the sixth-best team in Africa, having been ranked 39th best team globally, as the FIFA ranking released on Thursday indicated.
Mixed Results in AFCON Qualifiers
Coupled with the tactical prowess of interim coach Austin Eguavoen, the Super Eagles recorded a 3-0 victory against Benin Republic in Uyo and a goalless draw against Rwanda in Kigali.
However, despite their improvement, their points slightly decreased from 1498.93 to 1498.02 in September, allowing Tunisia to overtake them in the African rankings.
Competition Heating Up in Africa
Morocco maintains its position as the African leader, followed by Senegal, Egypt, Ivory Coast, and now Tunisia, as Nigeria has dropped to the sixth position.
Morocco’s share is attributed to their performance at the 2022 World Cup.
Global Top 10 Remains Steady
In the international setup, the list remained the same, with no new entry into the top 10.
Again, Argentina emerges as the leader, with France, Spain, and England occupying the second, third, and fourth positions, respectively, while Brazil completes the list of top five countries. San Marino, which is ranked 210, remains at the bottom despite their first victory in over 20 years.
