President Bola Tinubu has on Friday task the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to put in their best efforts in order to secure the ticket not only for the next AFCON but also the FIFA World Cup in 2026.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria missed out on the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup after losing on away goal rule to Ghana in the final round of the CAF qualifiers.
President Bola Tinubu hosted, celebrated and honored the squad that achieved second place for Nigeria in the AFCON earlier in the year, and he’ll hope to have inspired them to do more, by securing the ticket to the two major tournaments.

The highlight of the president’s message, as delivered by the Sports Minister include acknowledgement of the NFF as the biggest footballing platform in the country, as well as appreciation of their progressive impacts so far.

He then added that the president also wishes the NFF success in their efforts to get Nigeria to qualify for the upcoming major tournaments, the AFCON 2025 and the 2026 FIFA Club World in North America.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria have not had a great start to the World Cup qualifiers, picking up just three points earned from three draws after four games. However, the change in atmosphere under interim boss Austin Eguavoen has brought reasons for optimism in the AFCON qualifiers.

The NFF will hope the good form will extend to the FIFA World Cup qualifiers when they kickoff later next year.
Also in attendance was FIFA representative, Amaju Pinnick, who urged the federation love one another and remain undivided amidst the turbulence, in order to achieve the aim of projecting Nigeria football to greater heights.
