Dela Akorli scored the only goal in an evenly contested affair in Ikenne as Remo Stars edge visiting Bendel Insurance to return back to the Nigerian Professional Football League NPFL summit.
The Ogun state outfit lost their top status in the league following the 3-1 loss to Plateau United in midweek and intend to at least temporarily return to the summit before Rivers United will be in action away to Niger Tornadoes on Monday.

Daniel Ogunmodede headed into the game with a good record at home, where they’ve not lost a league game since a 3-2 defeat to Kano Pillars in May 2022. In addition, they’ve won all 18 games at home before today.

Dela Akorli wins it for Remo Stars vs Bendel Insurance

The early exchanges did not see either side create any real danger but the host went out of their shells after the half-hour mark, and began to ask questions, majorly from set-piece.
The deadlock was eventually broken three minutes before the half-time break. Bendel Insurance failed to convincingly deal with an Nduka Junior’s cross and Ghanaian striker Dela Akorli gets to it, lobs it over the goalkeeper for his first goal for the club.

It would end as the only goal of the game and see Remo Stars return to the league summit with 18 points from eight games, while extending their winning run at home to 19 games.
