Gift Orban, the 22-year-old Nigerian forward, is facing an uncertain future at Olympique Lyonnais (OL) as the French club contemplates offloading players to address financial challenges.
Orban joined OL last January during a high-paced recruitment campaign aimed at preserving their Ligue 1 status. The push not only kept OL secure in the league but also saw them clinch a spot in the European competitions and reach the Coupe de France final.
However, Orban has not had the impact the club hoped for, playing a limited role last season. Since the summer arrival of Georges Mikautadze, his playing time has dwindled further, having only made five appearances in all competitions this season.
As reported by Mohamed Toubache-Ter, OL’s financial troubles have prompted the club to consider a “fire sale” of players in January, with Orban among those likely to be put up for transfer.
In a recent report from Sports Buddy, the Nigerian forward was sanctioned by his parent club following his controversial comment on Instagram.
Lens Eyeing Youth as Forward Solution
Amid speculation of Orban joining RC Lens, who face an injury crisis up front, it appears unlikely the forward will move there according to Foot Mercato.
Lens brought in Martín Satriano to lead their attack after Elye Wahi’s departure, but Satriano’s ACL injury has sidelined him for the season.
Despite their need for depth, Lens are reportedly not pursuing Orban or any new No.9 unless an extraordinary opportunity arises.
Instead, Lens manager Will Still is focused on promoting youth talent, giving prospects Rayan Fofana and Kembo Diliwidi, both newly signed professionals, chances to step up in the first team.

What’s Next for Orban?
With Lens likely out of the picture, Orban’s future remains up in the air. While his limited role at Lyon suggests a transfer could benefit him, his next destination will depend largely on OL’s willingness to negotiate amidst their financial constraints.
