Super Eagles and Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface has been ruled out of action until 2025 after suffering a severe thigh muscle tear.
This development is a significant setback for both his club and country, as the 22-year-old has been an integral part of Bayer Leverkusen’s success this season.
Injury Details and Impact
Boniface sustained the injury during Nigeria’s 2-1 World Cup qualifying loss to Rwanda. According to Sky Sports reporter Marlon Irlbacher, the forward will not feature for Leverkusen again in 2024.

The Nigerian Football Federation confirmed the diagnosis, noting a muscle fiber tear in his thigh.
This season, Boniface has been in excellent form at the club level, scoring six goals in 10 Bundesliga matches.
His absence is a major blow to Xabi Alonso’s side as they aim to defend their Bundesliga crown and progress in European competitions.
Without their talisman, Alonso must reconfigure his attacking lineup, starting with their upcoming fixture against Heidenheim.

National Team Struggles
While Boniface has been prolific for Leverkusen, his form has not translated to the international stage.
In a recent report from Sports Buddy, the striker is yet to score for the Super Eagles after 11 appearances, a frustration interim coach Austin Eguavoen has reportedly expressed.
The injury further complicates Nigeria’s plans as they prepare for crucial matches in their 2026 World Cup qualification campaign.
Looking Ahead
Victor Boniface’s injury marks a difficult period for both player and club. Leverkusen will hope for a quick recovery while adjusting to life without their star striker.
