The 2024 FIFA Awards nominees list was recently released, and Nigeria was well represented, with Ademola Lookman and one other Super Eagles star making the roster for the awards.
Lookman and Troost-Ekong make FIFA awards nominees roster
The Atalanta forward and Nigerian national team captain, Williams Troost-Ekong, are two of a few African men players, including Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, in contention for the awards.
Lookman, who finished 14th in the 2024 Ballon d’Or rankings, has been shortlisted in the best attackers category alongside notable names such as Argentine legend Lionel Messi, Portuguese icon Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid’s Vinícius Júnior and Kylian Mbappé, Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka, Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane, and Barcelona’s teenage sensation Lamine Yamal, among others.
Meanwhile, Troost-Ekong and Hakimi compete in the defenders’ category alongside Real Madrid’s Dani Carvajal and Antonio Rüdiger, Manchester City’s duo of Rúben Dias and Manuel Akanji, and Arsenal’s William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães, among others.
