Once revered by fans at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, Osimhen is now the subject of intense backlash. A banner, publicly displayed by members of the Curva A, read: “Osimhen, ignorance will always be the ruling element in your life… Peasant, remember that Maradona played here!”
This scathing message reflects a complete breakdown in the relationship between the player and the fans, who once adored him for his passion and prolific goal-scoring. Osimhen joined Napoli from Lille in 2020 for €80 million and quickly became a club hero.
However, tensions began last summer when Osimhen reportedly vowed never to play for the club again. He has since skipped this season’s pre-season camp, citing a medical excuse, which fans see as further evidence of his desire to exit.
